Mistaken |
Friends
You called me yesterday
after three months of silence.
You're going off to college now—
Making something of yourself.
I smile; tell you I'm glad.
You say you're happy too—
And congratulations on the ring.
But something's missing
simply spinning
on this yo-yo of politeness.
I remember when
summer was heaven
whispered secrets
made you the best.
Blanket monster on a trampoline.
Scott Hall and Macho Man—
forgotten with the rest
in a box filled with plastic memories.
You tell me that you have to go
Supper's ready and the family's waiting.
I suggest we see each other soon
and you agree.
But we don't set a time
and you hang up.
