The Pop Corn Tree was planted
Twelve years ago one May
I removed it from the backwoods
In the front yard to display
Year by year we watched her grow
Three ft tall so long ago
The children sat among her shade
Climbed up the trunk quietly played
I could see them from the window there
Sunlight softly touched their hair
The sounds of childrens laughter play
The leaves the branches gently swayed
She withstood the winds the rains
She even withstood a hurricane
My husband took his ax one day
watched her as she fell away
I left him and he was betrayed
so the pop corn tree she paid
