Un-Fairy Tale

This is not some fairy tale world where Cinderella exists

I am not one in need of saving

I refuse to be a damsel in distress

I only want love for who I am and who you are with me

I am not looking for Prince Charming

Perfection is not something I seek

As humans we all have faults and failings

And this in no way makes anyone weak

I do not ask for any validation

Because I know who I am and that is just me

Why must anyone feel the need for vindication

Others do not make us who we choose to be

I cannot understand why people seek fairy tales

When they simply are not real

They only serve to frustrate when reality avails

And with the heartache and disappointment we are left to deal

I want more than the pages of a book can offer

Something tangible that will remain

Is there ever really a happy ever after

Or is my searching for something real all done in vain
