Spirit of Easter

Long ago in a city called Galilee,

a Savior was born to set the world free

Born in a manger to die on a cross

he never refused to suffer the cost

and when he found himself with nails driven deep into his hand

he spoke not a word because he knew it was God's plan

and our Lord suffered more than any man ever could

while being tortured and scorned more than any man ever should

Long ago in a city called Jerusalem

in the midst of all the women and men

A Savior noone ever believed in

saved the world from all their sin

and when he found himself with a crown of thorns upon his head

"I will do this no longer" are words that sweet Jesus never said

He never said that he'd suffer no more

He never removed the crown he wore

Long ago on a cross between two thieves

a Savior hung silent to set the world free

Born amongst cattle with a crib made of hay

I don't why he loved me enough to die this way

He died for us all in a horrible way and I can't imagine the pain

and I can't imagine that I alone, am the party who holds the blame

But our Lord knew what he was doing when he watched as his mother cried

our Lord knew what the world would gain when he stretched out and died

Long ago in a tomb made out for him

Jesus removed a stone placed there by many men

On the cross, he took his last breath

But from the tomb, he rose from death

He chose his father's path so the world could choose theirs

hoping all along that in our hearts, he'd find God there

and while many still reject him or forget what Easter means

I can hope right along with Jesus, that one day, the world will see
