I sit here crying in the dark
Remembering your smile
But with the memories of the good
Come glimmers of your guile
I cannot seem to understand
Just what you did to me
Those cutting words unleashed the light
So finally I could see.
You never were what I thought you were
There was always someone underneath
A darker image, a reflection of you
The sword hiding in the sheath.
You told me that you loved me
And I was gullible enough to believe
Until I refuse to give what you want
And just like that, you leave.
I thought you were a special one
I thought you were worth my love
But now I find that all along
You were never who I was thinking of.
Your thoughtless claims and meaningless words
Sent daggers through my mind
So now I sit here in the dark
Shedding tears for what was never mine.
