As I Lay

As I lay
I think of dreaming.
Wonder is the perception that is beheld;
simple pictures passing through the mind;
wonderous fantasies played out for me.
Why is it that I cannot control the visions of my mind?
But perhaps the more pressing question is this:
Why do we dream?
Is our own natural reality to harsh and cruel
that we must escape the world in dream?
Is the opposite true for the youth:
life so grand and full of wonder
that the dream must be spent in preparation for this world ahead?
Is this why horrid things fill the passing glances of youth?
What of reality?
Is a dream truely a false reality,
or an inescapeable world
we are forced to visit?
Are we slaves to this place
forced to carry out tasks that we cannot control?
As I lay wondering
I fade away
and pass into the another place that is intangible.

Javellef Dreams mere reflections of our deeper selves. The part of mind that we are not conscious of comes to life in a beautiful language of symbolism that we must decipher to uncover its message. I love your poem because I speaks to the desire to understand dreams. If you really want to learn more about dreams check out dreamschool.org. I visit that site regularly to learn more about dreams.

sincerelyichab It's amazing how much is going on in our underlying thoughts, our subconsciences in essence are never-ending, and people ignore their actions triggered by their mind, they ignore their motives, and therefore...you are left crying and you don't know why, you're left in the openess of a crowd, though you're saying you hate crowds, but you know you tell yourself you love the attention. It's amazing how our mind works, and you've written it very well, I beg you to see some of my stuff, cause if you want to see some interesting stuff played out by minds...my stuff is it, haha, very well done.

hazeleyes89725 Interesting. Personally, I love entering into the lands of dreams. Although I don't always enjoy what I see, I don't view dreams as curses or our "slave-masters", for with the negativity can sometimes come a hope or lesson behind it. "Dream-land" is a place of escape from an often chaotic world. I have been given promises through dreams and visions of my future that I know will come to pass in God's timing. My dreams at least give me a chance to see another view or a deeper meaning that I never would have grasped. Nightmares that I have show me that life doesn't always have happy endings or that the feelings expressed in the dream are feelings I'm having when I am awake. And I am just not aware of them. For instance, I have a big fear of being lost. When I had a dream that I was 5 yrs. old again and I couldn't find my way home, I woke up and realized that I had felt lost because I wasn't relying on God for direction and peace in my life. That being said, some bad dreams you can't find any thing good in them and they are clearly caused by a bad source. I too often wonder why we dream, and how we can dream in the first place. I think dreaming is an escape and a preparation for everyone. If I didn't dream every once in a while, I know that I would not feel completely renewed. I believe dreaming and letting your mind wander in sleep is part of relaxing and resting. It's healthy to dream. lol so now that my commentary on dreaming is over...I loved your poem.
