Public Faces

So many public faces

are what I see

It's really hard to tell

which one's really me

The attitudes all different

yet outward appearance the same

It's getting very confusing

Is this just some sick game?

Tying on a facade for this masquerade

before we must make haste

to greet anew

with a new face

For the next masked character

putting on a show

a grand, spectacular act

so no one will know

What happens

when they turn their back

And the plastic mask

goes slack

Because nothing,

even with its attractive gleam

or shining smile

--is ever what it seems
