Soldiers wives

Soldiers wives

Tonight I sleep alone. I will awake hoping to hear his breathing. feel his warmth.
i will fall asleep and dream about him. Memories we have already shared, ones I hope to share. There will be the nightmares. Will he return to me alive? Or in a body bag?
Tomorrow I will wait. For a telephone call. Hopefully him. Knowing it could be the worst call of my life. Sometimes no call at all. Casualities have struck again.
I will face the public with a smile. I on occasion will burst in tears. Hoping the one I see in uniform will be the one I love, but knowing its not.
Today I face the eyes of my child. Knowing I play both roles. I will cry with them, I will laugh with them. I will try to answer questions, that I can't answer for myself. I will try to be strong for them, when I can't be strong for myself. I will try to love them, when all my love is miles away, and the love I desire is there too.
Today I face the hardest task of all. Awaking to the challenge of being one of the strongest people alive. His strength depends on it, most of all America depends on it!
