The Mud Puddle

walking home

mama told me not to soil my shoes

all nice and shiny, not a scuff

well, not until later that night

the huge mud puddle

big enough to mistaken for a pond

all silky smooth, not even a ripple

walking past,

wondering, what possible could happen?

stopping, loking at my reflection

my questionable eyes staring back

lifting my foot

hovering it above the murky water

just tapping my toe on the rim

gliding my sole along the surface

"don't  soil  your shoes" said mama don't forget

deciding to walk away, listern to mama

remember waht she said

stop and galnce back, still rippling along the rim

walking back slowely, questioning

what could possibly happen

ill take my shoes off,

and place them on the side

run jump, splash

brown water up to my knees

kicking up plants, once settled on the bottom

pebbles in between my toes

grains of sand stuck to my feet

water droplets dripping from my hair

dwon the bridge of my nose

dried mud stuck to my bue jeans

all up the front of my butterfly shirt

sneakers in hand i make my way home

sliding the screen door open ever so quietly

shutting it softly, not to let it slam

mamas sitting in the kitchen

ear in hand shucking corn

tip toeing past, hoping she wont notice

the dripping water making a murky line

glancing over her slender shoulder, she spotted me

"what on earth heppened to you?"

"a mudd puddle" i replied

standing, walking gracefully towards me

following my drip line

like a broken turn table, a spin around

i smile and whisper

"i kept my shoes clean see, just like you told me"

Mama smiles

pulls me over and gives me hug

her aroma all around me

she laughs that soft laugh
