Winter

Silence

Till silence falls upon the world
Till shadows pass us by
Till death and grievance take the grave
With no more questions why

Passing by the faded trees
The deathly silent woods
The silver towers, steel and glass
Lost, like spoiled goods

Like endless ages, emptiness
Like embers, faded gray
Like death and taxes, barrenness
A toll of faded day

Marking all that came before
Like diamonds in the rough
All but stolen, empty now
Warn like shoes that scuff

Calling is the bitter wind, the heat waves drifting stray
Calling is the semblance, the likeness as they say
Drifting are my nightmare dreams, like harbors cast and fey
Drifting are my hopes and schemes, my lives that waste away
