Resisting Temptation

craving that bottle,

just one sip,

one taste of that intoxicating poison,

but one sip won't do,

one will turn to two, then five, then ten,

i'llw aste into that long forgotten realm,

of drunken carelessness,

it's so close; just an arm's reach away,

i lift my hand and reach, grabbing it's neck,

put the bottle to my lips,

but then i think of you,

i promised you i'd quit,

but the aroma of disaster is so tempting,

so impossible to resist,

i tip the bottle a bit,

the liquid moces closer to my mouth,

 a little more...

it hits my lips,

i drop the bottle,

it hits the ground and shatters around me,

the liquid pools around my feet, i gaze silently down at it,

bend down, pick up the shards of glass,

clean away the remnants of my old poison, and smile,

i think to myself..."thank you."
