Inside My Shell

Another day inside my shell

As far as anyone can tell,

I’m dead to everything outside

Living silent as I hide

Just another lonely day

I watch the world slip away

Breathe in deep and close my eyes

Hope my life will pass me by

Not another soul I see

No one comes to visit me

I guess that it is just as well

For all I know now is my shell

Deep and dark and damp and still

Inside the space that I must fill

A blackened hole in which to live

Taking all that I have to give

There is nothing left to tell

From the inside of my shell

Crack it open and you’ll see

That there is nothing left of me
