" Darkness"
It creeps among the shadows
as if waiting to attack
it avoids the faithful hallows
and turns everything to black
It's from an old and ancient unknown past
even visible to the blind
when around whatever pure won't last
it corrupts an innocent mind
It's a sinners want, their wildest dream
a killer's very drive
It lies within the hellish dreams
from hell's where it derives
It's the unsteady flicker in a flame
the things that fade and tarnish
it can go by various peculiar names
I refer to it as "darkness"
It's the morally bad in everything
the thoughts of rage and hate
it's the chill that leaves you quivering
at the prospect of your fate
It's the bitterness inside a soul
the coldness in one's eyes
it's the feeling when you lose control
it's the deception and the lies
It's the torment that keeps building on
a creature waiting to break free
it's whatever can and will go wrong
it's the terrors destined to see
It's the absolute worst in anything
the cause for one to fall
I call it simply "darkness"
and it resides within us all
