My Furry Friend

With such force you pounce on my tummy each morning

Your bright eyes peering deep into my heart

With such glee you chase after your toy enthusiastically

You race around like a bright shooting star

With such poise you stretch out every limb and tendon

Like a graceful ballerina preparing to dance

With such gusto you grind your claws into the pillow

Laying your bed with your vigorous stance

With such lethargy you settle down for your umpteenth nap

All snuggled up into a furry ball

With such delight you purr as I stroke and tickle you

You wriggle closer, soft and warm

With such love you use your fur as a cloth for my tears

Your little body brushing my pain away

With a wet nose you push your face against mine

Let me know you’ll be there come what may

Sometimes I forget who adopted who

You seem to be stuck to me like paper and glue

I’m so glad I found you when you were lost and alone  

You made my house feel like a home
