First Date

I sat and I waited

And my breath was baited

Peering to see you

Hoping you’d come soon

I lingered and pondered

Would you come I wondered

Has my nightmare begun?

Have I been stood up?

My palms were sweaty

And my hair felt messy

Did I wear the right thing?

Would you come, would you ring?

I watched the clock ticking

Hoping and wishing

Don’t let this go wrong

Please don’t be long

Then there in the distance

Through the crowd caught a glance

You looked and you smiled

And the wait was worthwhile

I felt my cheeks redden

As you said you’d been dreading

Me not being there

That I’d agreed as a dare

We sat and we chatted

We laughed and I gathered

That actually you liked me

As much as I liked you

And then as we left

You complimented my dress

I knew I would blush

But I felt such a rush

So boldly you said

“Shall we do this again?”

And I acted so calm

As I touched your arm

“Thanks” I stuttered

My tongue stuck as I uttered

“I’d love to go out”

I finally spat out.
