by the time

the cut has scabbed

and the bump healed

and the bruise disappeared

and the welt went down

and the tears dried

and the dent unbent

and the scars smoothed

and the discoloration blended

and the anger quieted

and the violence aged to weakness

and the fear retired

i was dangling from the wings of isanity.

and no matter how hard i tried

to keep my crack concealed

on any given day

from the bottom of my feet
