Locked.

I’m standing right in front of you,
And you in front of me.
We casually converse in our two-way stream
While the world spins rapidly around us.
From just the sight of your radiant smile,
All I can do is return it.
Communication? Just small talk.
Your eyes always locked with mine.
Your eyes- so brilliant and warm,
Searching but finding nothing.
Can’t you see it?
The way I look at you?
Don’t your penetrating eyes sense the way I feel?
It’s too late, and now it’s time to part.
All I want now is a little more time.
All I ever wanted was to be close to you.
My deepest hopes were for your gazes to dig farther,
For our thoughts to intertwine so you would know
That what I feel for you is more than you expected, and maybe,
Just maybe,
You would feel the same.
I guess wishes are for wells and dreams are for sleep,
For you are still blind.
I have drowned in your eyes,
And you have treaded water.
Your exterior is so calm, for I am too deep to create waves.
My surface is rippled in your presence.
Words flow smoothly out of your mouth, announcing your goodbye,
While I stumble through the dictionary in my mind
That has been shredded by the sound of your voice.
You laugh quietly- but I can hear.
I kick myself for being a fool.
I would worry that you would think of me as one,
If you thought of me as anything.
Perhaps if my fear weren’t so great,
And if everything about you didn’t entrance me so,
I could tell you what I wish my eyes could.
But for now, I am mute.
