Triumph over darkness

Reach out

I was walking by
Just pacing by
And I stopped
I saw something shimmer
out of the corner of
my eye
I turned and saw a girl
with a metal necklace
A metal cross
I looked back up to her face
Her eyes
were so sad
Filled with sorrow, pain, longing
Her lips
were so red
Frowning as if shes never smiled
She stood there
Simply standing
Watching me watch her
She made me want to cry for her
I felt I should stop and help her
ask her
'Whats wrong?'
I was compelled
to comfort her, bring her solace
I reached out for her
She did the same
I moved towards her
She did the same
I blinked, she blinked
And I studied
the girl I saw
Staring back at me
with those eyes
Showing all her loss
all she's endured
all she sees
With those lips
quivering
silently pleading
for escape
The words to speak
were gone
I could only show
my concern
by watching her
And nothing more
My eyes spoke the words
I could not voice out to her
Telling her
'It's alright.'
But she showed no sign
Of caring
I felt tears leave my eyes
The sight of her
Made me cry
She saw me weep
And she too cried
We both wept
I looked down, away from her gaze
Down to my own chest
Where I saw a metal cross
It was then I realized
The girl with those sad eyes
and pleading lips
Was only a reflection
in the mirror in front of me

flashoflight ...wow this really struck a cord... Being one who often finds himself picking up the shattered pieces of broken beauty, It really spoke to me. I wrote a poem, Lamentations of a Wilted Rose, that captures some of my own views in this. very good writing.

mcihellejane So I liked this one as well. I call these poems reflection poems, 'cause everyone seems to have one. Yours captured my interest and held it to the very last line. You put your own spin on it, and it worked out very well. I love the short lines and almost broken thoughts throughout the whole thing. It was almost as if you were seeing your reflection in water and the ripples broke the image a little every once in a while. That was the thought I had I guess. Sorry I'm rambling....I did enjoy the poem!
