Sterile.
Sterile, white and perfect as I am not.
Certainly not that sterile
unless they did something to me
(Oh Lord, my God in heaven!)
to keep me from returning to this place.
Sterile.
Would they could take my sin as easily as
they took my child.
There is a window here
Sometimes I think to hurl myself from it
But the glass is probably tempered
And I have not the strength to even stand
I ache from the emptiness of my womb
I ache from the lonelyness of my heart
I yearn to leave this place of sterile, white
Loss and seek my errant love.
But they won't even let me have my own
clothes back.

Just to clarify, I myself never had an abortion, but I did miscarry and had to have a D&C... it felt like they were taking my baby away even thought I knew it was already dead. |
