"The Amateur"
Here I am, the simple man, with lyrics un-profound.
I don’t know much about writing poems,
They’re just fun all around.
I get that I’m no Robert Frost;
Edgar Allen I am not.
I’ve got no definite rhyming scheme,
I have no lucid plot.
Langston Hughes is not my peer;
Emily Dickinson not my like.
My poems are tedious and full of drear,
No voice, nor thought, nor life.
Most other poets have bested me,
Though that’s no tricky task.
My words are drab and lowly;
My verse nothing in which to bask.
I am, plainly said, mediocre.
But that’s just fine for now.
I’ll improve as God grants,
And spout poems as he allows.

I like it. You very rhyme well, until the last stanza. |
