The Other Side of the River

Journals and pages torn from notebooks, scribbled on the pages is the epic of your past,

in a Faustian tragedy, you sold your soul, for what you always hate to be asked.

We all sold our souls for everything we know, it's gnawing at the back of our minds,

for gold, for glory, for love, for story, but now it's all behind.

Thinking about what we left for what we all have today,

we may be tempted but there's no way back, at least that I can say.

On the other side of the river, I let my old self die,

with all the drops I've ever bled, with all the tears I've cried.

On the other side of the river, the darkness calls us again,

but the river's just too wide and strong, the other side's our end.

On the other side of the river, our demons lurk there still,

so I leave what I had and find a new path, find the warmth and leave the chill.

Like yesterday will never come, and tomorrow is today,

the past is past, what's done is done, the signs I throw away.

The other side of the river beckons to everyone that's here,

but nobody should ever go back, no one should ever go near.

The other side of the river is gone for us,

it's gone for us forever.
