Ungrateful Chant
The sound of corruption echoes
Off the huge chilling stone walls
The morbid feeling forever lingers
Long after the music is gone
“Gloria” they sing
Glory to God, the highest of them all
“Kyrie” they chant
Lord, have mercy on my soul
Yet they reject the beggars
Searching for answers in the cold
They have no literacy allowing you twist doctrines
For a few more coins of gold
The sky around the church
Always seems black and foreboding
In a time when sanctuary means nothing
And priests are wolves in sheep’s clothing
Night is day and day is night
A man would stab his brother in the back
If only to be in power
What does your god think of that?
“For God so loved the world”
A twisted world of hatred and sin
“That he gave his only begotten son”
We all killed him
“That whosoever believes in him”
The holy father of an innocent man
“Shall not perish but have eternal life.”
And save the wicked from being dammed
Twas’ true then and is true now
That corruption rules our lands
Tis’ a mortal fatality that we face the reality
Of believing an unholy pen
God sees evil
God hears lies
Is this the way we repay
Someone who gave his son to die?

| i feel like this is a poem about the hypocrisy of organized religion. or maybe of religion in general? either way, its pretty good. |
