Giving You Control

Perpetually I played the dummy in your perverse ventriloquist act.

But for what I was promised I spoke your words and fulfilled my pact.

You always hid back stage, behind the curtain yet you ran the shows.

Leaving me out there, both reaping your profit and taking your blows.

And for as long as you wrote my lines, with authentic zeal I read.

Despite knowing deep down inside that I was doing a devil’s deed.

Halfheartedly I charmed the venomous snake by singing your song.

It’s a fragile armistice I can end with three words or make last long.

But I will go any distance to make this lie of a life finally real.

I’ll brave any danger to place on my hatred a permanent seal.

I will cast myself into the inferno offering my body as toll.

I will do anything to feel even if it means giving you control.
