“Goodnight baby,” echoes past the receivers disconnect
Severing the spells we weave in the hours before dawn
Left with bittersweet longings for the dreams they reflect
Slowly singing myself to sleep by the music of our song
“I love you” the last thought that filters through my mind
Three words that pour through my soul to sink into my bones
This is no riddle I can see clearly for this love is not blind
It’s slowly revealing as it builds never concealing what it owns
My heart is yours and for this I am complete I’ve found my place
Hope endures with my restless searching finally at an end
Tranquility returning to my sleep, the only dream I chase
Is to be held within your embrace to treasure the time we spend
Within these moments at times the words refuse to take form
Stumbling to express to you the impression you leave upon me
How significantly you’ve altered this hopeless soul so torn
Digging desperately to find this beauty in me you swear you see
A beauty you make me believe exists beyond the mess I personified
Deeper than the scars that surface the walls of my weakened pride
Barriers that displayed the blatant message of “ENTRY DENIED”
Crumble as betrayals of my past and this longing felt for you collide
How to justly convey with words gratitude for this gift so immense?
Saving me from myself, and these inner demons you persistently fight
An endless battle in bearing these burdens at your own expense
Just so that I am the one you hold close as you whisper “baby goodnight”
