The darkness creeps in with silent feet
To once again consume me whole
This life long enemy that won’t retreat
The wages of this war that tax my soul
The green eyes that you once left black
Resentment flashes through their depths
Blurred by tears they can’t hold back
Cursed by the images they can’t forget
The trap that waits to catch me slip
Chases incessantly about my heels
Frantic to escape its oppressive grip
That deprives my heart of all it feels
Yet in this game of cat and mouse devise
Transcendence has gradually begun to transpire
A warrior has formed through a will to survive
And an escalating rage now fuels the fire
An unnoticed alteration of predator from prey
No longer the girl you once affronted
Your life will be the price that you pay
As the hunter now becomes the hunted
In what once I feared now find strength
In the shadowed past from which I used to hide
A vengeance lurks that knows no length
Now in me all that you’ll ever find is a fate poetically justified
