The Depth of Friendship

He beats himself up about his past,
his happiness doesn't seam to last.
Turning to a old relief of pain,
this poor man feels insane.
He can't grasp any kind of sanity,
there's no reflection upon the mirror of the vanity.
A dark shadow looms over his head,
he wonders if everyone would be better off if he were dead.
Family outcasted him.. he's all alone,
his heart is hardening, turning to stone.
Day by day his head becomes less clear,
he fears his break is more than near.
A soft hand reaches out, lifts up his chin,
"Cheer up," She says, "Or this battle you will not win."
He forces a slight smile and holds back the tears,
it's time to let go of the past and all the darkened years.
Brushing off his clothes, he rises and stands tall,
knowing that he now has a friend that will not let him fall.
