Dearest Sister

9 -11 For Me

With a certain  2 year anniversary arriving,
her heart slowly started dying.
That was a sad day in American history,
but also a time she recalls crying on her livingroom floor, crying a begging plea.
For her - it's no longer about planes going into buildings..but the day her father went to jail,
the day he stepped over the line and caused tears to flood her face -ghostly pale.
He didn't take her warning seriously,
so it was her turn to make it end - his abuse emotionally and physically.
She still hears her nephews cries and she sees flashes of his pained face,
a terrible memory that she can't erase.
Pressing record and hiding her phone,
she wasn't going to leave him alone.
The first blow caught her 7 year old nephews arm,
her feet froze to the floor a silent alarm.
Her eyes widened and she couldn't look away,
knowing this was it - he was finally going to pay.
The weight seamed to have been lifted off her feet and she yelled,
"Leave him alone!" She cried as her voice propelled.
Grabbing the toy sword and never letting go,
her anger and rage starting to grow.
He yelled in her face she could feel his hot breath on her skin,
she wasn't going to let go or move - she wasn't going to let him win.
Eventually giving up - he released the toy and kicked her in her side,
she waited for him to leave the room then she broke down and cried.
Her nephew sat a few feet from her crying and looking at her,
his tears flooded his face and his words started to slur.
She crawled over and held him tight,
"It's okay," She whispered, "It's going to be alright."
Grabbing her phone - she was holding the key,
the key to finally set this family free.
Free from his abuse - free from the pain,
free from a father who was truly insane.
Looking back she only has one regret - letting the first blow occur,
that is the one regret that will always haunt her.
She shakes away the regret and smiles with tears,
knowing she has forever erased this family fears.
He can no longer harm them in any way,
or forever in jail he will have to stay.
