The Broken Heart of the Beast
Why did the Beast let his Beauty go?In this way his love for her did show.His kind, gentle love, which was much like the doe.If she’d not return to him was his heart’s only foe. Beauty did leave to see those that she had love.And the Beast hoped she’d come back on wings of a dove.He prayed to the LORD, who reigns above,For her swift return was all he ever wished of. But the day was past due that she was to come back,And the life that was Beast soon grew slack.His body, it seemed, would surely lack,His beating heart that would soon stop in its track. As the end of the Beast drew near,To him Beauty’s face did appear.In her eyes there was seen to be fear,For she wished for the Beast to live on for many a year. She whispered of her love to him in his ear.Her sweet words the Beast did hear.Upon his face he felt the tear,That saved his life by her love that was most dear.
