I Want To Linger: A Poetic Portrait I wanna linger.A little longer.A little longer here with you. What a beautiful, dazzling sky.Up above the trees so high.The moon and stars are passing by.Bathing the grass on which we lie. What a beautiful, glorious night.The crickets sing with all their might.Everything seems to be just right.Forgetting things that happen in daylight. It’s such a perfect night.It doesn’t seem quite right.That this should be my last with you. It seems like such a short time.Tomorrow my heart will pine.But my memory of this will shine.For tonight I know you’re mine. If only time stopped here.A time when you were my peer.For then I would not fear.What may happen in a year. And come September.I will remember.Our camping days and friendships too. Tonight I know it’s me you love.And you are the one that I dream of.This must all be a blessing from above.One sent on the wings of a dove. Tonight I shall hardly sleep.My thoughts of you just run too deep.Back in my bunk I’ll lie and weep.Wishing you were mine to keep. And as the years go by.I’ll think of you and sigh.It’s just ‘good luck’ and not ‘good-bye’. My heart will ach to the core.When you are there no more.I will dream of you across a distant shore.And wish to be with you forevermore. My heart will not let my say good-bye.I’m trying to not let myself cry.I know you’re trying as hard as I.But some things were never meant to die. I wanna linger.A little longer.A little longer here with you.
