Still Hoping

It's hard to describe this pain
So deep inside me
It’s screaming to get out
I try to push it further
Down into my depths

No one can tell
What I’m trying to hide
They wouldn’t care either way
If so not enough
To understand my pain

It’s hard to endure
All the taunting remarks
I try to brush it off
With a small little laugh
Or an odd remark

It all gets worse
When it comes from my friends
They think it’s harmless joking
All I do is laugh along
No matter how it hurts

I silently wonder how long
I can endure this pain
Building up like a balloon about to burst
Before I crack
And fall down and away

I wish day and night
For someone who understands
This pain I hide
So far I’ve failed
But there’s always tomorrow
