close to death

the sun sets

as she lays down to rest

she sighs thinking about her day,

and how it could have been better...

if only...she never read that letter.

she knew at once that it was not good news...

he was trying to avoid the crying...

or the hate...

he said..."I don't want to break your heart"

in her head she yelled "TO LATE!!"

she ran away...into her room

and began to read

as she did...her tears stained the paper

until all the words were a jumble of letters

She begins to wonder if she'll love again

she wants time for her soul to mend...

she reflects on all the times they spent together...

and how often he had whispered "i'll be here FOREVER" 

now it seems as though "forever" has come to an end.

she cries some more...

then turns off the lights...

lights a candle...

and pulls out a knife...

with it in her hand...

she says a prayer...so desperate, so sad/

"Dear Lord,

Here I am again...lost and alone...left by the one that i thought i loved out in the cold...Lord please reach out for me, and for my life that I will take tonight!"

Before she can strike herself in the chest...

her phone starts to ring...

she turns towards her bed...

her answering machine picks up...and she hears a "hello"

it is the neighbors son...who she never knew loved her so...

he tells her that he finally found the courage...

to call her...to ask her...

if she could love him too... 

his sweet soft voice...

and how he asked her kindly...

the way he spoke...

and they way he laughed...

caused her to drop the dangerous knife...

which only seconds before almost ended her life
