through the salt and pepper curls, i made tangles with my little hands. Perched on the back of our sturdy chair, softened with a padded cushion.

My knobby tomboy knees pressed against mom's shoulders. A woman so beautiful that her magnificent name, and her heart that failed never deserved her

and now

Over the slight, sunhued buds of her hair, i run my worn hands- nails gnawed and stripped to the quick. Realizing the obligation of something delicate.

She has to live out my good intentions

my little girl

a lady so beautiful, her mother who panics, and her magnificent name, will never deserve her.

and that same chair-- barely stands
