To Give Up Or Fight

I had it all planned out,

I knew I could do it, there wasn’t a doubt.

Sometimes though other people step in your path,

Then you either fight or become consumed by your wrath.

I’ve fought my whole life for every breath I took,

Fought for every dream, reading every book.

I started from the bottom and worked my way up,

I got the undeserving looks because I perfected the little stuff.

Walking out with a first place here and there,

Comments like she didn’t deserve that, followed by a glare.

Hours spent practicing so I could hold my head up high,

My horse isn’t as expensive as yours, but I refuse to walk away dry.

I had a dream, had it all planned out,

It crashed and burned but I refuse to sit around and pout.

You get to choose the path you take,

I refuse to give up no matter how many mistakes I make.

I’ve been on the edge, I’ve tried to give up,

Yet every time my tenacity asks “so you’re not that tough?”

It comes down to this, make mistakes and learn but never stray,

The world will make you fall, but they can’t take you’re dreams away.

So this year won’t be easy, but I’ll still make my dreams come true,

Even if it is the last thing I’ll do.
