bedside poem

ill tell you a story
of a man and his wife
who should have been sure
he was done with his life

early one morning
a sad christmas eve
daddy fell down
fell down on his knees

lied there frozen
sick as a dog
pumped with an I.V.
he slept like a log

the results where in
it came to a shock
the food he ate
gave him a lock 

as he awoke
she said he would die
he thought of his guilt
and then he did cry

as daddy lay dying
in the hospital bed
mommy sat down
and bubbed his soft head

she said dear do you love me
are you still mine
and no other womans
your my great devine

daddy replied
with a tear on his cheak
i just couldnt help it
i was to weak

on his bed
he did pray
God would have mercy
on him some day

he said dear im sorry
i cheated on you
she said dear im sorry
its only the flu
