I'm the one who took it apart. I took it apart to see what was wrong, though I'd already suspected the power plug (which it was.) I did guard against static, and the truth is that once I got it open, I realized that I had no solder to put it (power plug) back onto the board. I have two small kids, so it was safer to just temporarily put it back together instead. I didn't really need to take it as far apart as I did, but Tanya wanted a picture of it "all messed up and apart" And so here it is. On an interesting side note, I built my own piece to interface the laptop HD to my desktop ide. I was really proud of myself until I found out it would have only cost me ten dollars to purchase.

amptone Ha ha I was about to say it was the motherboard. Even with out seeing it for myself, with laptops, it's a risky thing. Most times when a lap tops craps out, the mother board is cracked and or the battery won't hold charge. You might want to check the power adapter in the back and make sure that it charges. Dell and Toshiba laptops are great but the Compaq and suck a huge nasty toe! The over heat and they aren't made as well. What series is/was it? Oh and the power issues are always easy to fix. I'll sum up a funny story.

A friend dropped her lap top, nothing was wrong with it, she sent it in and spend a few hundred $$$. It turns out all she needed to replace was the power plug in. It wouldn't even turn on because the battery was drained, but she never listened to me MWAH HA HA HA !!! Thank god for tech's aye?

TanyaCheri What happened was, the connector part were the charger meets the motherboard, came unconnected. My husband is a computer Tech, thank goodness! Otherwise I would be totally screwed. As of right now the computer is back together, the connector is still apart, but I was able to hook that hard drive up to another computer and pull my information off. So... thats the story. R.I.P. my 'inspriation"
